Subsystem Device Driver - IBM TotalStorage Multipath Subsystem Device Driver (formerly Data Path Optimizer) is a multi-platform (Windows, Solaris, HP-UX, AIX and Linux) pseudo or MPIO Framework device driver designed to support the multipath configuration environments in the IBM TotalStorage Enterprise Storage Server (ESS). Both the Windows and AIX MPIO Frameworks are supported.
Network Driver Interface Specification - The Network Driver Interface Specification (NDIS) is an application programming interface (API) for network interface cards (NICs). It was jointly developed by Microsoft and 3Com Corporation, and is nowadays mostly used in Microsoft Windows on Intel-based computers, but the open-source ndiswrapper and Project Evil driver wrapper projects allow many NDIS-compliant NICs to be used with Linux and FreeBSD, respectively.
Open Data-Link Interface - The Open Data-Link Interface (ODI), developed by Apple and Novell, serves the same function as Microsoft and 3COM's Network Driver Interface Specification (NDIS). Originally, ODI was written for NetWare and Macintosh environments.
Communications subsystem - In telecommunication, a communications subsystem is a functional unit or operational assembly that is smaller than the larger assembly under consideration. Examples of communications subsystems in the Defense Communications System (DCS) are (a) a satellite link with one Earth terminal in CONUS and one in Europe, (b) the interconnect facilities at each Earth terminal of the satellite link, and (c) an optical fiber cable with its driver and receiver in either of the interconnect facilities.
